Now we met the family we also got in contact with the owner. Well, it was the son of the owner. His father had a garage specialized in classic cars and he traded the car in for a Jaguar XK10. The 2nd owner was an employee of the Embassy who potentially shipped it from the UK to France. The douane/custom import papers are with the car but it was officially never registered on the road in France. The intention of his father was to keep the car and take care of the minor issue's it had. The car was parked away in full working condition. At some point in time his father moved to the south of France but the son and the car stayed. The son who happens to be an employee in a garage is clearly aware of the status of the car but does not have the time and fundings. I'm not sure what the exact trigger was for them to sell it at this stage. A friend of the family stepped in and simply offered to help and posted it for sale on FB. And the rest is history by now.
The son also found an old picture of himself behind the wheel which he shared with us. How cool is that? You can also see the drivers mirror is missing back then. But it is still with the car as it was stored on the back seat ever since. Note also the front right section of the bumper is missing back then. Unfortunately this piece is still missing, the same issue for the rear bumper. Does any of the readers recognize the type of bumpers used on the Sierra? Are they just like the rear and frontlights reused from a different car? It would be great if it can be identified.
The car has only 21.852 km on the dial which I expect to be genuine - meaning it hasn't gone round. It had at least not been driven over the past 30 years. Let's see if we can work out more about it's history and it's previous owners - in fact I'm working on that already. So watch this space.
All in all our concerns about the car were cleared up by now. Still a lot of work to take care off. But we are in for the game.
