First check and improvement steps.

Now the car is safely at our place we can do the first assesment. Unfortunately we couldn't get the trailer with car inside the barn to park it dry. The access to the barn goes via a small ground ramp. Due to the wet weather conditions and it's weight (plus low trailer and steep-ish ramp) it simply didn't work out. I guess if the car has to stay out for another week after 30 years it would not do any harm. Just a few days later it started snowing which resulted in this nice picture:

Jos firstly had sprayed all doors and hood hinges with WD40 and now all opens up very smoothly again. Easy win and a very rewarding job. Clearly the car needs to undergo a complete restoration but it's good to see some basic elements like this are solid and in good working order. Next he checked the gearbox oil which was still surprising clean red.

The motoroil looked normal black too.

The airfilter was removed and the carburettor looked fairly clean ie: limited corrossion on the inside and no bug nesting.

The alternator/dynamo was running free too! All looked promising, I'm now becoming very curious to see if the engine will start spinning as well.

But first we need to get it in the barn. So with flat tyres and a locked steering wheel does not help the situation. The good news is, most parts are easily available since underneath the car is a Dodge Aspen. So a new steering lock with keys was purchased for only € 31,-  As for the wheels a good set of used tyres would have done. At some stage the rims had to be refurbished but luck was on our side as Jos managed to find a correct time period set of good rims with good tyres which is a lot cheaper.

Again I'm very curious to see how the new set of wheels will transform the car. I expect the true car geeks have recognized the rims. These are so-called "Wolf Race" rimms. They were standard supplied with the car when new.

I found one of these documents regarding conformity that the Swiss company "Car and Driver" by Willy Willenger in Basel were authorized to sell them.

Next to this we also found a NOS set of rear lights which we purchased as well. I guess we more or less concluded already to go ahead with the project and buy useful needed parts. As might be known the rear lights are coming from a Renault 12 phase 2.

We are now awaiting the delivery off these parts. So watch this space.
